Titan Valley Warheads perform at St. Philip's | Arts & Culture
St. Philip’s Friends of Music’s summer concert series concludes on Sunday, September 8, at 2 p.m. in the Church with something completely different.
The Titan Valley Warheads will return to St. Philip's to perform a mixture of bluegrass, western, western swing, and a cappella music. Titan Valley is a five piece acoustic band formed in 1981 that is renowned throughout Arizona and the southwest. Known for their tight harmonies and instrumental skills, they have been voted Best Bluegrass Band by the Tucson Area Music Awards, won the prestigious “Best Band” title at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and performed for appreciative crowds at festivals, concerts, and events. The band currently consists of Gary Kuitert (mandolin), Earl Edmonson (guitar), Ed Davenport (bass), Andy McCune (banjo), and Tom Rhodes (fiddle).
After their formation, the band became a staple at the Bar M Cattle Company. Moving from there to Al Smith’s Pub, the guys played for 7 years as the regular Wednesday night band. During this period the band was also making a name for itself by doing festivals, jam sessions, and shows for various organizations. In 1995 the band moved to Sunday nights at Li’l Abner’s Steak House and played there for 17 years until last year, when they began their current steady engagement on Wednesday nights at the Boondocks on First Avenue. Recently, Titan Valley has performed at the Sedona Chamber Music Festival, Tucson Bluegrass Festival, Prescott Bluegrass Festival, Tucson Folk Festival, Flagstaff's Pickin' in the Pines Festival ... and more private parties at ranches and homes around Tucson than you can shake a stick at!
