Senior resource fair at St. Philip's for all ages | Events

St. Philip's In The Hills Episcopal Church will hold its fourth annual Family Caregiver and Senior Resource Fair on Sunday, March 17, from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m., in the West Murphey Gallery. This fair will bring a full range of resources and experts to address a variety of issues regarding elder care. The information is geared not just for elders, but also for those who care for or about them, and even for those who expect to be an elder someday. As the bumper sticker says, “Aging: If It’s Not Your Concern, It Will Be.”

Free health screenings for diabetes, asthma, heartburn, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol will be conducted by the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. Although seniors and family caregivers are especially encouraged to have these free screenings done, anyone is welcome to avail themselves of these services. No doctor's appointment to make, no spending time in the waiting room, no dressing in the oh-so-chic paper gown, and no insurance papers to fill out.  The pharmacists will write down the information so that it can be shared with a participant's doctor on the next visit.

Pharmacists will also provide information on heart disease, smoking cessation, and immunizations. Information on recent medical advisories on the need for updating certain immunizations for adults is particularly important for seniors and family caregivers. Pharmacy professionals will be available to answer questions about medications. Participants may bring their prescription bottles in a brown bag to the Fair for a personal, one-to-one review. They may also bring a list of medications, which should include the name of the drug, dosage, and number of times per day taken.

ALOHA (Adult Loss of Hearing Association) — demonstrating the Loop Hearing Device used in large spaces.

Barnes & Noble — demonstrating the Nook for people who may have trouble reading a page of text, showing them how magnification can allow them to read with greater ease.

Test the Luck of the Irish at this St. Patrick’s Day event.  Guess the number of green and white candy pieces in a jar and win a $25 gift certificate to Zinburger or Scordato’s Pizzeria.
