St. Phillip's to hold panel discussion on preventing gun violence | Events
The Prevention of Gun Violence Ministry Group at St. Philip’s In The Hills Episcopal Church presents a forum and conversation addressing gun violence on June 30, at 10:15 a.m. in the East Gallery.
We are all witnesses to horrific gun violence, either from personal experience or media exposure. The ministry group will lead a panel discussion of all opinions on this charged topic. They hope to show how they as a committee function in their meetings as they discuss, using civil discourse, a very strong, heated topic. After the panel discussion models appropriate communication techniques, attendees will have their own table discussions, reporting back and finishing up with prayer.
At their December 2012 meeting, following the shootings in Connecticut and in response to the prevalence of random gun violence worldwide, St. Philip's Vestry voted to support the Statement of Principles of Faith Leaders United Against Illegal Guns, which had been signed by the Rector. It provides that clergy work together to educate their communities about the risks of carrying illegal guns and encourage the passage of reasonable, common-sense laws to limit access to illegal guns, thus reducing the number of senseless deaths and injuries caused by gun violence. Several Vestry members formed a group to lead efforts for our community at St. Philip's and to reach out to the greater Tucson community.
The public is cordially invited to participate. There is no charge.
St. Philip’s is located at 4440 N. Campbell Avenue at River Road, Tucson. Ample parking is available in the north parking lot or under our solar parking structure on the east side. The office phone number is 299-6421.
