'Rooms with a view' program coming to the Catalinas
News
The Palisades cabin has five rooms and can sleep up to four people.

MT. LEMMON, AZ (Tucson News Now)- The federal government is considering opening up a way for you to spend time in the Catalinas under the stars.

It would be the first cabin in the Catalinas for the ‘Rooms with a view' program.

The U.S. Forest Service wants to offer a new way to get out of town and enjoy a cabin in the Catalinas, which they call ‘a little slice of heaven.'

One such cabin is the Palisades, it has five rooms and can sleep up to four people.  It's up about a half-hour from the base of Mt. Lemmon.

This could be the newest addition to the ‘Rooms with a view' rental program that will be run by the U.S. Forest Service, and for a fee anyone can reserve a cabin for day and overnight use for a family or a group.

There are more than a dozen others from Sedona to the Santa Rita Mountains.  This would be the fifth in Southern Arizona, and the first in the Catalinas.

All money collected pays for maintenance for the buildings, almost all of which are on the National Historic Registry.

It is in the middle of the comments process right now, but if all goes smoothly the cabin could open for reservations as early as August.
